At Belvedere Academy, we aim for all our students to gain a place at their first-choice university. The AQA Baccalaureate (AQA Bacc) is a qualification which recognises and celebrates the achievements of well rounded students with A-levels and more. Students face ever-increasing challenges in highly competitive environments for opportunities in employment and higher education. To be successful, they must develop and demonstrate their academic ability, their soft skills and personal qualities such as:
• Leadership
• Independence
• Communication skills
• Time management
• Commitment
• Perseverance
The AQA Bacc can effectively strengthen and help students to illustrate these skills. Students build on core A-level subjects, adding value through wider learning and enrichment activities.
The AQA Bacc is an integral part of the core offer in the Belvedere Sixth Form. All students will be expected to complete an AS Level qualification in General Studies, an Extended-Project mini-dissertation of their choice as well as contributing to the wider community through voluntary service or other recognised activities.
“Adding value through wider learning and enrichment.”
Why choose the AQA Bacc?
“The AQA Bacc allows your students to achieve the above and stand out from the crowd. It is innovative, flexible and interactive.” (AQA)
“It gives a broader picture of students’ achievements than academic studies alone.” (TES)
How is the AQA Bacc awarded?
The AQA Bacc is awarded on consistency of achievement. Students meet the fulfilment criteria by achieving at least a grade E in each of their three A-levels, a AS-level General Studies and in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ); and a minimum of 100 hours of enrichment activities. Universities will continue to make their offers based on the various elements of the AQA Bacc – Successful students will receive an AQA Bacc certificate as well as their A-level, AS-level and EPQ certificates.
General Studies
As part of the AQA Baccalaureate, all girls in Year 12 will have the opportunity to take the AQA General Studies B AS Level. The AS Level involves two exams. There is no coursework element. This contributes towards the AQA Baccalaureate, and is also a qualification in its own right, with many universities accepting General Studies as a fourth AS Level. Through enrichment those girls that wish to will have the opportunity to take the full A Level in General Studies in Year 13.
